Jefferson City, Missouri

The City of Jefferson, the official name of the capitol of Missouri, was founded in 1821 and is named for Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president.  Daniel M. Boone, son of the famous pioneer, was commissioned to map out the city, which became incorporated in 1825.  From this time, a constant fight waged to remove the city's State Capitol status.  Finally, in 1911, the battle ended with a statewide bond and referendum to rebuild the razed capitol building.  This vote forever established Jefferson City as the state's governmental seat.

Situated on the Missouri River, Jefferson City's central location provides easy access for visitors within the state, as well as out of town guests. Our clean, well-kept neighborhoods reflect the pride our people have had since the beginning. Our well-preserved historic downtown area offers several points of interest, from shops and cafes to the Governor's Mansion and majestic Capitol Building. The beautiful rolling hills that surround Jefferson City are filled with small communities and farms that reflect the influence of their ancestors. Our people reflect the same strong sense of loyalty and hard work, of graciousness and old-fashioned hospitality.

Jefferson City offers fun and exciting things to do for everyone.  Whatever your interest -- recreational sports, a tour of local historical sites, finding just the right antique, a relaxing stroll along a nature trail, a visit to nearby attractions such as the Lake of the Ozarks, or a full day of shopping--there is something here for you.
